夢の終わり(return to their belongs) - Cover | Tenchi Muyo in Love 2: Distant Memories

Some stories take on new meaning with time. When I first watched the 1999 anime film Tenchi Muyo in Love 2: Distant Memories, I saw Haruna as nothing more than a crazy woman who stole Tenchi away and made everyone suffer. As a Ryoko fan, I resented her.

But revisiting the film years later, I saw her in a different light. She wasn’t just taking Tenchi—she was holding onto a love she could never have, projecting her feelings for his grandfather onto him. In love, there are no true villains, only those who stay and those who must let go.

In the end, Tenchi’s return to the group feels right. But I can’t help but wonder—what if he had stayed with Haruna in that other dimension forever? Would that really have been such a tragic ending, or just a different kind of fate?

This piece plays in the film’s final moments, as Haruna and Tenchi’s grandfather reunite beyond time and memory. I hope this cover conveys the same bittersweet emotion and reflection it brings me.
