Eyes On Me - Cover | Final Fantasy VIII

"Eyes On Me" was released in 1999—26 years ago—but it still touches my heart just as it did back then. I remember being a high school student, asking my friends to send me an MP3 of the song through ICQ, the popular messaging app of that time.

I couldn’t afford a PlayStation, and my computer wasn’t powerful enough to run the PC version, so I didn’t get to play Final Fantasy VIII until the remastered edition came out 20 years later, in 2019.

Even so, Faye Wong’s voice and this beautiful song stayed with me. I always knew the game had to be something special. Stories of pure love have a way of staying with us. Maybe because they’re rare in real life, they feel even more precious when we find them in a game, a movie, or a book. They become part of us—part of our memories.

This cover is my tribute to that feeling. I hope it brings back memories for you, too.
